Lindsay Lohan gets 84 minutes in jail for a crime that any average citizen (and especially black average citizens) would have gotten at least a decade of hard time for. Guess what? This bothers no one. It’s not a big deal, Americans expect that having money means that you will be able to escape the justice system. That’s what money and fame are all about, an unequal playing field, privilege. It’s as if the miscarriage of justice was built into the American mentality. It was a long time before anybody cared about slavery or about civil rights or about women’s rights. Nobody finds anything automatically wrong with a concept until it becomes a social necessity. This should bother you.
It should gnaw at your gut that some drunken nitwit got away with a crime because she had money. Apathy and tolerance for nonsense is what got America into it’s present set of problems. Anger and resentment are the only things that can get it out.
